Mono for each audio output, and balance where the device has it.
StereoFix gives every sound output on your Mac its own mono setting, and its own balance where the device has a balance control. It switches them automatically when you change output.
The problem
macOS has one mono switch and one balance slider for everything. If a MacBook speaker crackles, or you hear in one ear, the fix you need for one output is wrong for the next: mono on the speakers also makes your headphones mono, and every time you switch you go back into System Settings.
How it works
- Click the laptop icon in the menu bar.
- For a device, switch on Use profile and choose Mono and Balance.
- Whenever your Mac switches to that output, StereoFix applies its profile. Devices without a profile keep macOS's normal behaviour.
Made for
- A broken or crackling speaker, left or right. Built-in speakers: Mono on, Balance fully toward the working speaker. You hear both stereo channels from that speaker, while headphones stay in stereo.
- Hearing in one ear. Mono just for your headphones or AirPods; other outputs stay in stereo.
- Balance that keeps drifting. Each device that has a balance control keeps the balance you set.
Asks for nothing
No microphone, Accessibility or Screen Recording permission. StereoFix runs in the App Sandbox, has no account, makes no network connections of its own (tips go through Apple's App Store) and collects no data. It never processes or records audio: it only switches macOS's own mono and balance settings.
Free
StereoFix is free. If it helps you, an optional tip in the app keeps it going. Nothing unlocks; there is no subscription.
Coming soon to the Mac App Store.
